DES MOINES — Centerville's Tanner Cowan and Riley Denny needed to wrestle only once Thursday night to advance into Friday's action.

Cowan, wrestling at 126 pounds, beat Waukon's Adam Benzing by 7-1 decision. One-hundred-ninety-five pounder Denny pinned his opponent, Harlan's Cale Stork, in 1:54.

Centerville's Brad Irwin was pinned in 3:50 by Greene County's Jordan Challen. Irwin wrestled Williamsburg's Aaron Schultz but fell by a 3:45 pin. The loss ended the sophomore's mat-time at the state tournament.

Earlier Thursday, both of Moravia's wrestlers advanced with first round wins, keeping four of the five Iowegianland wrestlers on the mats at Wells Fargo Arena for another day.

Moravia's Briar Cochran and Dylan Conley will begin wrestling at 9 a.m. Friday.
